Professional advice for Brookes Engage students

22 November 2016

On Wednesday 16 November in The Terrace restaurant, Brookes Engage students were given the opportunity to discuss their hopes for their future with Oxford Brookes alumni and local professionals. Brookes Engage is a long term access programme for local sixth form pupils. Students taking part in the programme are from backgrounds generally underrepresented in higher education and the project is designed to support them to make a successful transition to university, and beyond; including providing the participants with an opportunity to explore employment and career progression opportunities.

It was a really successful evening with students reporting that it was exceptionally useful and really interesting:
It was really interesting and a good insight into different careers which I didn't know that much about.

I enjoyed meeting everyone and found the conversations interesting and surprisingly motivating.
I got to meet people who do careers that I never thought of doing.

The professionals who attended the event were really generous with their advice and time and many offered the students the chance to contact them in the future for work experience and shadowing placements, which are hugely valuable opportunities for the Brookes Engage students.
